Privacy
Nothing on this site asks for your name or email. Cookies are set only if you say Allow.
Counted for everyone
Page views are counted with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies, keeps nothing on your device and builds no profile of you. It records the time, the page, the site that sent you, the country and city a visit comes from, and your browser, system and kind of device.
If you allow counting
These four services load through Google Tag Manager, and none of them loads before you answer.
- Google Analytics
- Which pages are read, for how long, from what kind of device, and the country and city a visit comes from. To see which stories and tools people use, so the next ones are better.
- Google Ads
- Whether a visit came from one of our ads, and a note that this browser has visited, so an ad can find it again. To know whether an ad was worth paying for.
- Meta Pixel
- The same for ads on Facebook and Instagram: which ad brought the visit, and a note that this browser has been here. To know whether an ad was worth paying for.
- Hotjar
- How far pages are scrolled and where people tap, gathered into heatmaps. Typed text is never recorded. To find the parts of a page that confuse people.
Kept in your browser only
- Your answer to the cookie question, for 12 months. Then you are asked again.
- Whether you turned candle light on or off, until the clock next changes it.
- Which story you were reading and the paragraph you reached, until you finish it.
- Which piece of music you were listening to and how far in, until the last piece ends.
None of them leaves your device. Clearing this site's data removes all four.
Changing your mind
Privacy choices, at the foot of every page, asks the question again. Saying No thanks after Allow stops the services straight away.
